Alec's Place was founded in memory of Alec Dulude, a 27-year-old who died from undiagnosed tick-borne disease — misidentified as a psychiatric disorder. His parents, both medical professionals, created this organization so no family has to face what theirs did.
Alec's Story
Alec Dulude was a bright, 27-year-old whose declining health was repeatedly attributed to psychiatric illness. In reality, he was suffering from undiagnosed tick-borne diseases — infections that attacked his nervous system and went unrecognized until it was too late.
His father, Richard Dulude, MD, and his mother, Pamela Olson Dulude, founded Alec's Place in Salem, Oregon, to ensure that what happened to Alec never happens to another family. Their mission: empower doctors and patients to recognize the neurological and systemic signs of vector-borne disease before it is too late.
